Cannabis has garnered considerable attention as a complementary therapy for cancer patients, with anecdotal and scientific evidence suggesting potential benefits for managing symptoms like pain, nausea, and appetite loss.1 As more states and countries legalise cannabis for medicinal use, patients and healthcare providers alike are exploring how it can be safely incorporated into comprehensive cancer treatment plans. 

Despite the growing acceptance, the use of cannabis in cancer care remains complex and often misunderstood. Various factors, such as dosage, method of administration, and potential drug interactions, require careful consideration.

Additionally, while many patients report positive experiences, cannabis is not a one-size-fits-all solution and can carry risks, particularly when used without medical guidance.2 This article aims to provide a clear, research-based overview of how to safely integrate cannabis into a cancer treatment plan, emphasising the importance of personalised care and collaboration with healthcare professionals.3

Understanding the role of cannabis in cancer treatment
