  • The potassium content in dry moringa powder is about 15 times more than that in bananas.

All thanks to the high amount of flavonoids, tannins and other phenolic chemicals that increase the growth of white blood cells and other cells that kill the pathogens.5,7 Another study conducted in Nigeria found that tea made with moringa powder increased the white cell count in school children.8

The Vitamin A present in moringa powder has anti-inflammatory properties. It protects the largest organ of our body i.e. skin and prevents the entry of harmful organisms into our body through it. Vitamin A also helps in the formation of antibodies which can fight off harmful organisms. Interestingly, the Vitamin A content of fresh or dried moringa leaves was found to be better than once artificially prepared.1,8

Studies have also seen that the natural proteins and amino acids present in moringa leaves can also destroy the microorganisms and boost our immune system.2

The high amount of Vitamin C and calcium are also known to strengthen and boost our immune system.8

Moringa powder can also protect our bodies from the harmful effects of chronic inflammation. It does so by reducing the production of certain inflammation-causing substances thereby regulating the immune system.2

The dried leaf powder has a longer shelf life due to low moisture content.4 It is best to store the moringa powder in a sealed air-tight opaque plastic container as sunlight can reduce the Vitamin A content.

Because of its amazing nutritional composition, a few countries have also used it to treat malnutrition and improve immunity in children   For toddlers, adding one tablespoon of moringa powder can provide about 14% protein, 40% calcium, 23% iron, and sufficient vitamin A recommended for their age.8 For pregnant or breastfeeding women, six tablespoons a day can fulfil not just most of their daily iron and calcium needs but also provide other nutrients including 143% of the recommended vitamin A intake.9

For infants, adding one tablespoon of moringa powder to their food three times a day can provide significant nutritional benefits, including 125% calcium and 272% of the recommended vitamin A intake.9

Adding a small amount of moringa powder to food items like bread, sauces, dips, yoghurt or soups can significantly improve its nutritive value without changing its taste.2
