Similarly, when forming the "t" sound, it detects the tongue's touch against the upper front teeth's ridge. These sensations help children coordinate precise articulator movements for clear speech.

  3. Limited vocabulary: By 18 months, children typically start saying a few simple words. A delay may be suspected if a child has a very limited vocabulary or is not attempting to imitate words
  4. Difficulty understanding instructions: Difficulty following simple instructions appropriate for their age, such as "give me the ball," may indicate a delay in receptive language skills
  5. Unclear speech: By 2-3 years old, children should be understood by familiar adults most of the time. Persistent unclear speech, especially if it's not improving with age, could suggest a speech delay
